Activity 4 1-13-11 Gas Observations

Why did balloons get bigger when the pump was turned on? What was happening at the molecular level?

The balloons got bigger because when the air was being sucked out of the container, it was also sucking the air that was in the balloons out of the container also. Eventually the balloons would have popped and the air would have moved completely out of the container. The molecules were being sucked through the balloons into the container and then out of the container.
Gas moelcules are in constant movement and are far apart. When the balloon has bouncing molecules and you take them away from the outside the balloon expands because they're only being pushed in one direction. The are molecules, air pressure, forced the mountain dew bottle to colapse..
